Frequently Asked Questions

Islamic Relief serves as an international humanitarian and development organization established in 1984 to support those in need regardless of religion, language, or race. We operate across a wide spectrum from emergency relief to long-term development, delivering aid to disaster and crisis zones while building sustainable programs to combat poverty. Active in Türkiye since 2012, Islamic Relief Türkiye focuses on emergency humanitarian aid, food and basic needs, orphan support, and projects to strengthen livelihoods through agriculture, livestock, and entrepreneurship. We also organize seasonal campaigns for Ramadan, Qurbani, winter, and back-to-school periods, alongside rapid response programs for emergencies.
We conduct our operations guided by the Quran and Sunnah, drawing inspiration from Islamic values. Our activities rest upon core principles such as ihsan (excellence), ikhlas (sincerity), justice, compassion, and the sense of amana (trust).
Islamic Relief carries out humanitarian and development work across many regions worldwide. Our organization operates in more than 30 countries across the Middle East, Africa, Asia, Europe, and America, while maintaining the capacity to respond rapidly to new areas during emergencies. We run continuous programs in countries including Türkiye, Syria, Yemen, Palestine, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Somalia, Sudan, Ethiopia, Bangladesh, Indonesia, and Bosnia and Herzegovina. Furthermore, we manage humanitarian projects, fundraising, and awareness activities through our representative offices in Europe and North America. Our operational footprint evolves based on humanitarian needs and crisis situations.
Our organization maintains no links to any religious group, ideological movement, or political party. We operate as an independent institution established under the Turkish legal system.
Individual donors finance the majority of our work, while we also receive institutional donations and maintain various other income streams. However, our primary strength comes from the regular contributions of our individual supporters. Your donations allow us to support vulnerable people during crises and run long-term projects to lift them out of poverty. Since 1984, we reached over 120 million people and conducted humanitarian activities in the most challenging regions of the world.

Due to logistics and costs, Islamic Relief Türkiye primarily accepts in-kind donations from corporate donors, manufacturers, and other NGOs. We generally do not accept individual in-kind donations because the cost of transporting and distributing them often exceeds the cost of procuring the same items locally near the crisis zones.

We record and utilize donations according to the purpose and geographical preferences specified by the donors. Purpose constraints refer to choices for specific donation types such as zakat, sadaqah, or fidyah, while geographical constraints designate a specific country or region for the aid. This system ensures we use donations in accordance with the donor's niyat (intention).
Islamic Relief remains one of the few organizations that meet the Core Humanitarian Standard criteria, recognized as the highest benchmark in humanitarian aid. We regularly monitor and evaluate our projects, ensuring quality assurance through independent audits and international standards.
We adopt a balanced structure between professional staff and volunteers to ensure effective and sustainable operations. Our work in challenging regions requires expertise, technical knowledge, and long-term commitment. However, we expand our reach by working with volunteers in every possible area.
