Islamic Relief Türkiye, which has been on the ground since the first moments of the February 6 earthquakes—which caused significant destruction across 11 cities and affected millions—continues its humanitarian efforts in the region today through permanent, large-scale initiatives.
While the foundation supports education by constructing schools, it also implements projects designed to accelerate long-term development in the earthquake zone.
Mahmut Güngör, the Program Coordinator for Islamic Relief Türkiye, along with an accompanying delegation, visited Kahramanmaraş, Gaziantep, and Hatay to inspect ongoing projects and strengthen strategic partnerships.
During the visit to the Kahramanmaraş Provincial Directorate of National Education, the delegation met with deputy directors and the Dulkadiroğlu District Director of National Education to discuss educational investments. Construction has been completed on two primary schools, part of three educational institutions undertaken by Islamic Relief Türkiye in the area, while the kindergarten project is expected to be finalized soon.
The delegation also held two high-level meetings focused on agricultural development in Kahramanmaraş, meeting with Doğan Gözcü, the Director of the Agricultural Research Institute, and Ali Karakoç, the Provincial Manager of Crop Production.
In Gaziantep, the visit focused on entrepreneurship projects conducted in partnership with Germany, Canada, and Mauritius. The delegation observed the direct impact of grants provided to women entrepreneurs at the Gaziantep Women Entrepreneur Support Center (KAGİDEM). Additionally, a meeting was held with Dr. Ercan Kılınç, the Foreign Relations Director of Şahinbey Municipality, to discuss collaborative working models with local authorities.
Finally, the Islamic Relief Türkiye delegation met with Mehmet Yalçın, the Mayor of Yayladağı in Hatay, to evaluate the support programs that have been provided to the district since 2021.
