Bridges of Brotherhood in Sudan

Sudan is experiencing one of the greatest humanitarian crises in modern history due to severe conflicts and economic collapse in recent years, and it is in urgent need of assistance. Within our 2026 Qurbani campaign, we reach out to our Sudanese brothers and sisters who have been forced to flee their homes and lack access to food and clean water, carrying the blessings of Eid to them through your trusts.

Essential Facts About Sudan

Why do we provide aid to Sudan? +

The violent conflict that broke out in April 2023 and rapidly spread across the country has brought Sudan to the brink of catastrophe. With agriculture and supply chains coming to a standstill, a massive food crisis and the threat of famine have emerged. The collapse of the banking system and markets has made it impossible for civilians to purchase even the most basic food items, leaving millions entirely dependent on external humanitarian aid.

What is the population and demographic structure of Sudan? +

With a population of approximately 48 million, the vast majority of Sudan is Muslim. However, due to the ongoing war, Sudan is currently witnessing the world's largest internal displacement crisis (IDP). Millions have fled the capital Khartoum, Darfur, and other conflict zones to seek refuge in safer rural areas or neighboring countries. The majority of this displaced population consists of vulnerable women, children, and the elderly.

What is the scale of the humanitarian crisis in the country? +

The situation in Sudan is a total humanitarian disaster. A large portion of hospitals and health centers are out of service; epidemic diseases have begun to spread rapidly due to a lack of medical supplies. The collapse of access to clean water and the horrific increase in acute malnutrition rates directly threaten the lives of hundreds of thousands of children, especially those under five.

What is Islamic Relief doing in Sudan? +

Islamic Relief has been operating in Sudan since the great famine of 1984. Throughout the current crisis, to the extent that security conditions permit, we distribute emergency food parcels, clean water, and hygiene kits in areas where displaced civilians are concentrated (Port Sudan, Darfur, etc.). We expand our operations during Qurbani and Ramadan, delivering meat and essential food to the tables of hundreds of thousands of our brothers and sisters affected by the war.
