An Aqiqah Qurbani is a sacrifice performed to express gratitude to Allah for the blessing of a newborn child. Although it is not religiously obligatory, it is a highly regarded and beautiful act of worship considered a sunnah. The word "Aqiqah" is of Arabic origin and also refers to the first hair on a newborn child's head.
At Islamic Relief, we accept your Aqiqah Qurbani trusts, intended for your children who are the most beautiful gifts from Allah, with great care. We perform the sacrifices in strict accordance with Islamic principles and our transparency policy, delivering your donations to the tables of poor and needy families.
We deliver your Aqiqah sacrifices as a blessing to the tables of our brothers and sisters struggling with hunger, war, and crises around the world. Your trusts are in safe hands with our sacrifices performed within the framework of hygiene rules, by carefully selecting healthy animals that are religiously permissible to be sacrificed.
An Aqiqah Qurbani can be sacrificed at any time from the day the child is born until they reach puberty. However, the most virtuous (afdhal) time is the seventh day after birth. It is sunnah to name the child, shave their head and give its weight in gold or silver in charity, and sacrifice the Aqiqah Qurbani on the seventh day of their birth.
According to the sunnah and advice of our Prophet (PBUH), it is recommended for those who have the financial means to sacrifice two Aqiqah animals for a boy and one for a girl. However, for those with limited means, sacrificing only one animal for a boy is sufficient, and the sunnah is still fulfilled this way.
The parents who perform the sacrifice, the child, family members, and all relatives can eat from the meat of the Aqiqah Qurbani. However, all of your Aqiqah trusts donated to Islamic Relief are delivered directly to poor, orphan, and needy families in the most appropriate way for the spirit of this worship.
