A Shukr Qurbani is a sacrifice performed to express gratitude to Allah when a person achieves a desired goal, receives an expected blessing (such as buying a house or a car, or recovering from an illness), or survives a calamity. Although it is not religiously obligatory (wajib), it is a recommended and highly regarded act of worship (mustahabb).
At Islamic Relief, we accept your Shukr Qurbani trusts with great care, as it is one of the most beautiful ways to remember that Allah is the true owner of all blessings and to express gratitude to Him. We perform the sacrifices in strict accordance with Islamic principles and our transparency policy, and deliver them to the tables of those in need.
We deliver your Shukr sacrifices as a blessing to the tables of our brothers and sisters struggling with hunger, war, and crises around the world. Your trusts are in safe hands with our sacrifices performed within the framework of hygiene rules, by carefully selecting healthy animals that are religiously permissible to be sacrificed.
There is no specific time requirement or restriction for a Shukr Qurbani. A person can sacrifice this animal when the intended blessing is realized or at any permissible time they wish. However, it is preferable not to delay the gratitude and to perform it as soon as possible after the blessing is received.
Unlike the Adak Qurbani, everyone, including the person who performs the sacrifice, their spouse, children, and parents, can eat from the meat of a Shukr Qurbani. However, all the Shukr sacrifices you donate through Islamic Relief are distributed directly to poor, orphan, and needy families in the most appropriate way for its purpose.
Although both are sacrificed for the purpose of thanking Allah; an Aqiqah Qurbani is specifically sacrificed for a newborn child (in gratitude for the blessing of a child bestowed by Allah). A Shukr Qurbani, on the other hand, is generally sacrificed with the intention of giving thanks for any achieved success, recovered illness, acquired property, or general gratitude.
